What We Do

The Election Funding Authority of NSW (the EFA) is a statutory body responsible for administering the provisions of the Election Funding, Expenditure and Disclosures Act 1981 (the Act). The EFA is responsible for dealing with:

  • the registration of third party campaigners, candidates and groups and their official agents for funding and disclosure purposes;
  • receiving and processing claims for payment from the Election Campaigns Fund for State General election campaigns;
  • receiving and processing disclosures of political donations received and electoral expenditure incurred lodged by or on behalf of political parties, elected members, candidates, groups, third party campaigners and political donors;
  • receiving and processing claims for payment from the Administration Fundreceiving and processing claims for payment from the Policy Development Fund
  • publishing the disclosures of political donations received and electoral expenditure incurred on the EFA’s website;
  • making disclosures of political donations received and electoral expenditure incurred available for public inspection; and
    exercising the compliance and enforcement provisions of the Act.

The EFA has a number of other responsibilities including conducting research in relation to election funding, political contributions, electoral expenditure and other matters relating to the Act.

Services provided

The EFA is committed to quality and the provision of services which meet the needs of our stakeholders requirements and legal obligations. The EFA seeks to perform its functions, activities and responsibilities impartially, effectively and efficiently.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • provision of disclosure documents lodged by candidates, groups, parties and political donors;
  • provision of registers of candidates and agents for elections;
  • provision of election funding information;
  • education programs for candidates, parties and political donors; and 
  • publications.

Accessing Disclosure Documents

The EFA is required to make the disclosures, lodged by parties, groups, candidates and political donors available for public inspection.

Disclosure documents are available for inspection by appointment at our Sydney office. The documents are made available for inspection up to 6 years after an election.

The EFA publishes reports on this website that summarise the information contained in disclosures lodged with the EFA.

In addition, copies of disclosure documents for local government elections are available at your local council office.

The EFA may, upon written request, mail or fax copies of disclosure documents. Standard postage and fax charges apply for documents that are mailed or faxed.

Inspecting disclosure documents at our office is free. Photocopies of documents are provided at a charge of 55 cents per A4 page.

Disclosure documents lodged by candidates, groups, parties and political donors are made available for inspection no less than 6 months after an election.

Accessing the Election Funding Registers

For each State and Local Government election the EFA keeps a register of candidates and official agents. The EFA also keeps a register of party agents.

The EFA is required to make the registers available for public inspection.

Registers for parliamentary and Local Government elections held from 2006 onwards are available for viewing by appointment at our Sydney office.

Inspecting registers at our office is free.
